City of Varazdin offers 21^st century connectivity while preserving its historic baroque charm

 

Varazdin, a city with about 50.000 residents is the cultural and economic spotlight for the northern part of Croatia and a very popular destination for hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. The city of Varazdin is well known for its baroque buildings and its textile, food and IT industries.

 

Owing to the visionary Mayor of Varazdin, Ivan Cehok, the city becomes now even a more attractive location for businesses, tourists and a pleasant city in which to live. Ivan Cehok began looking for a broadband solution that would allow the city to provide broadband connectivity free of charge for tourists and also as connectivity to residents and local businesses.

 

But he had one big challenge: The broadband network equipment must preserve Varazdin’s beautiful, historic baroque buildings.

 

Solution: MOTOMESH DUO – Motorola wireless broadband

 

AIR’s Wireless Broadband Partner, Croatian service provider Magic Telekom introduced Varazdin’s mayor to Motorola solutions. The mayor recognized that the Motorola technology would be perfect for the city’s needs to supply the thousands of tourists, the residents and the local businesses with a wireless broadband solution.Best yet; it would not cost the city a fortune to install.

 

Right now the city is in the process of installing 45 MOTOMESH Duo units that will initially cover about one square kilometer. The city of Varazdin has worked together with AIR and Magic Telekom to implement the wireless broadband network supplied from Motorola. Today it is possible for the city of Varazdin to offer access to that network free of charge, for tourists and residents.

The city of Varazdin has even the ability to preserve its beautiful city with their old baroque buildings, because of the extremely light and small MOTOMESH Duo units. Weighing less than 2.3 kilograms, making it ideal for mounting on historic buildings or other locations where larger units cannot be placed.

 

Motorola’s wireless broadband technology brings also safety for the residents of Varazdin and the thousands of visitors every year.  The city is testing video surveillance to keep the peaceful town free of petty crime.

 

Long-term the city’s goal is to have the network serve 5000 residents, 500 enterprises and 30 government organizations to support all of its public safety, public works and public access needs.

 

In addition, Motorola enhance the “Project Smart Community” and tries to connect six cities via point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless links.  The city of Varazdin is working on this and would become a part of this network.

 

With the help of Motorola and its wireless broadband solution -MOTOMESH Duo- it is possible for the city of Varazdin to extent such a unique network for visitors, residents and local businesses.
